Claudio Ternieden

Claudio is the Senior Director for Government Affairs at WEF. Working to represent water professionals, he directs WEF’s legislative and regulatory efforts in Washington, D.C. with both Congress and federal agencies. Before joining WEF, Claudio worked with a technologies innovator and integrator at the Department of Defense, as well as with the Water Environment Research Foundation, helping lead innovative research in infrastructure, disinfection, wet weather management, climate adaptation, resilience, water reuse and decentralized systems. Claudio has also worked with the American Association of Airport Executives on regulatory and legislative issues. Previously, he worked with the US EPA in Washington, D.C. and helped develop a number of federal regulations. He also worked with the State of Indiana Department of Environmental Management supporting the implementation of the State’s Great Lakes Water Quality Standards in NPDES permits, operators’ certification program and the drinking water capacity development program. Before that, he directed the City of Elkhart, pre-treatment enforcement program. Claudio has a law degree from Pace University School of Law, a master’s degree in public policy from George Mason University, and a BA from Concordia College. He also worked with the US Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Division in New York City, and the Hudson River Keepers in White Plains.
