– Utilizing IOT, AI, and Algorithms to Optimize Chemical Treatments for Compliance with Phosphorous Effluent Permits
Acknowledging that Canadian municipalities, government agencies, fisheries, citizens and many other stakeholders in North America share concerns over phosphorous discharges – and the consequences for the environment – the authors wish to share their experiences in the UK, of meeting effluent guidelines by utilizing one of the lowest CAPEX & OPEX options – chemically enhanced tertiary treatments (CETT). A relevant case to be presented was initiated by the Water Framework Directive (WFD). Under this directive, the UK has been driven to tighten effluent phosphorus levels down to 0.5 mg/l in their Asset Management Plan 6 (AMP6) and even further to 0.1 mg/l in AMP7. The presentation will discuss: implementation using auto-optimized dosing systems, remote monitoring of effluent phosphorus levels, automatic reporting of deviations from set targets, predictions of maximum and minimum chemical usages over the fiscal year, and having it all occur in real-time.
