– The Environment: An Innovation Driver for Aerospace
New trends are influencing the Aerospace Industry as Aviation commits to stringent objectives for the reduction of carbon emissions, noise reduction and recycling and recovering components of end-of-life. Eco-design is about reducing aviation environmental impact at the design phase, considering the full lifecycle of the product. The C SERIES, now Airbus A220, a clean-sheet design is a good example of Eco-design and provides lower noise and a 20% reduction in carbon emissions compared to other aircraft currently in production. Bombardier published an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the Cseries, a first in the aerospace industry. The presentation will discuss the steps required to publish an EPD, including performing the life cycle analysis of the aircraft (LCA) and developing and publishing the Product Category Rules (PCR) for the aircraft type.
