– Pilot project CarboCount Montreal: a systemic approach to support GHG and pollutants reduction measures
There are two major stages in the CarboCount City method: the mapping of a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory by sectors, and the installation of sensors for GHGs and pollutants in order to develop a more precise GHG inventory based on measurements.
We have found that this technology has already been used in large cities such as Paris, Rotterdam and Toronto, but this has not resulted in any new municipal GHG reduction measures. The project governance and management needs then to be improved. That is why CarboCount Montreal has been built following a systemic approach to support GHG and pollutants reduction measures.
The scientific editing of the project is therefore multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary, bringing together the disciplines of mobility, health, environment, atmospheric sciences, social sciences and governance.
