– Pavement structure performance containing recycled glass aggregates
The conference will present the results of a research project on the performance of pavement structures containing recycled glass. The first phase showed the possibility of incorporating glass into the pavements. It has shown that in certain proportions, the glass aggregates makes it possible to reduce the amount of bitumen in the asphalt mixture (AM), to increase rigidity, to reduce the penetration of the frost, to influence the water resistance and the permanent deformation. In this context, it’s possible to use glass in all road structures. In addition, some of the objectives of a second phase will be presented. Preliminary tests show that AM with glass is more reflective than standard AM. It can therefore theoretically reduce the storage of heat in the roadway. This property would therefore reduce the heat islands caused by the storage of heat in the roadway.
