– Panel on Climate Finance

 -

Investors play a critical role in the global fight against climate change, as they have the capacity to shift capital flows from high carbon activities to low emissions activities.

Launched in 2019 at the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit, the United Nations-convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance now has 30 institutional investors (representing USD 5 trillion in assets under management) committed to setting up carbon neutral portfolios by 2050. As such, this alliance is one of the many initiatives intended to capital holders in the decarbonization of economies and in the global fight against climate change.

How does the Zero Alliance represent an effective tool for achieving carbon neutrality and limiting global warming to 1.5 °C? What responsibility do owners of capital have vis-à-vis the decarbonization of economies and the global fight against climate change? What future for the global financial movement in favor of fossil disinvestment and sustainable finance?

First, and after a brief presentation of the Alliance, the speakers will draw a portrait of the major trends facing the financial sector in terms of decarbonization of economies and the global fight against climate change.

These presentations will be followed by a discussion on the next steps for the global financial movement in favor of fossil disinvestment and sustainable finance.
