– Bioenergies and energy transition

In transports, although Quebec energy transition strategy seems focused on the sole electrification, the transition to a 100% electric car park will not occur according to the best motivations and predictions of the governments. Notwithstanding all measures taken to favor public transport, improving mobility, and subsidising electric cars, the complete replacement of the explosion or diesel engine car park will take over 25 years. As the Province of Quebec owns large quantities of harvest residues forest biomass and large hydroelectric capacities, the production of second generation 100% renewable “drop-in” quality biofuels appears like a solution to favourable solution. The BELT project will serve to illustrate the proposed solution as a significant contribution to GHG reduction in transports.
